Something is on the Horizon. Wii are Ready

The calm before the storm is truly at hand. We have already received a couple of ripples in the storm that will for sure turn into a full blown tidal wave come next week. Last Thursday we came to know our beloved revolution as Nintendo “Wii”.

Interesting name to say the least. Like it or hate it, the whole internet has been sent into a frenzy with both negative and positive reception from the announcement. People are talking Nintendo. What a ingenious idea to name your system something so far fetched, something so different, something so….dare I say it, innovative. Everyone including non gamers alike, are talking about it.

My question and purpose for this story is simply this. Nintendo knows what they are doing. They deliberately did this move. They have known about “Wii” for a while and dropped the bomb when they felt it was necessary. People will be talking about the new name right up until E3 and past. It was a well thought out plan that Nintendo released on the gaming community at the right time. This has generated so much hype and has created a huge buzz, that you cannot escape it, it’s everywhere. Wii has been a main topic of discussion amongst my circle of friends and a decent amount of them aren’t even huge Nintendo fans.

I will leave you with this; remember when you first saw the Wii-mote? I said to myself, What is Nintendo thinking? When I first laid eyes on the way I’ll be playing my games for the next 5 years I was bewildered. Since the GDC, I have grown to love the innovative controller that Nintendo will be releasing. The same holds true for even the Nintendo DS. Is Nintendo crazy releasing a dual screen system? How will that work? These questions were asked by gamers everywhere in the not too distant past and look at us now. We’re playing a TON of Animal crossing on our DS. We are wasting everyone we race in Mario Kart. And we cannot wait to get our eager hands on the new remote. Give the name a chance gamers. If we didn’t have innovation gamers, we would be stuck playing boring and repetitive games. Wii will grow on you. Game ON!
