Wii to be Cheap??

The following was a story from codenamerevolution. Here is what they had to say:

A new report from Nikko Citigroup in Japan reveals that the Wii will retail for $170 USD (19,800 Yen) which goes against current rumoured figures of $229.

DS Lite was released in Japan at around $149 USD (16,800 Yen) while in North America it was released at a lower price of $129 USD. It is slightly possible that if this report is proven true we could get the Wii at around $149 in North America. DS Lite was originally ‘rumoured’ to be priced at around $199 in the United States. We could be in for another surprise, but before that we’ll have to wait till Leipzig or at least September to finally get some info.

My Thoughts:
In every way possible I truly hope that this will be true. In my opinion, it may be the nail in the coffin for Nintendo’s competitors. Having a “new generation” Nintendo system at that attractive price plan will bode well for the big N. I still think the system will cost around $229.99, but I also thought that they would charge more for the DS. We will keep you updated and thanks for stopping by.

New Rayman Screens!

Rayman Raving Rabbids is the fourth major installment in the popular Rayman series. The game’s development is being led by Michel Ancel, original creator of Rayman, at Ubisoft’s Montpellier studio. Look for this one to be a major sleeper hit for the system. I am looking forward to this one.

Reggie Interview with USATODAY

The following is an interview that USATODAY ran with Nintendo’s VP Reggie Fils-Aime. Here is what they had to report:

REDMOND, Wash. — Nintendo’s soon-to-be-released Wii video game console is getting raves from reviewers and others who have gotten an early peek.
The Wii (pronounced wee) sports an innovative controller: To hit a tennis ball, you swing it like a racket; to drive an SUV over treacherous terrain, you twist it like a steering wheel; to shoot a duck, you point it like a pistol. Getting consumers to try it — and jump-start Nintendo’s (NTDOY) ambitious plan to trump Microsoft’s (MSFT) Xbox 360 and Sony’s (SNE) PlayStation 3 — falls to Reginald Fils-Aime, 45, Nintendo of America’s new president and chief operating officer.

Q: What made Nintendo try to do something dramatically different with the Wii?

A: Our focus is interactive game play, a whole new way to play, that puts fun back into this business. It allows everybody to pick up and play and isn’t focused on the core gamer.

Q: The Wii seems to emphasize the controller, not heavy attention on graphics. Is that by design?

A: That is exactly by design. Our visuals for Wii will look fantastic, but in the end, prettier pictures will not bring new gamers and casual gamers into this industry. It has to be about the ability to pick up a controller, not be intimidated, and have fun immediately. The trick is being able to do that, not only with the new casual gamer, but do it in a way that the core gamer gets excited as well.
