Times Magazine has Wii Sports listed as #1 game of 2006

We all know that Wii sports is amazingly addictive and apparently Time Magazine agrees. Recently the publication has named Nintendo’s sports collection #1 game of 2006. Here is an excerpt from the magazine:

1. WII SPORTS (for Wii)

There is no possible way to say this enough times: great graphics dont make great games. Perfect Dark Zero looked like a Titian, but it was a snooze. Wii Sportsa mini-sports anthology that includes golf, boxing, tennis, baseball and bowlinglooks like Colecovision. The little guys on the screen dont even have arms. But its hilarious, and it shows off the power of the motion-sensitive Wii controller to put you right in the game, sweating and yelling and trying crazy spins and lunges and angles. The tennis game alone is worth the price of admission. Which is nothing, since it comes free with the Wii.

Didn’t read over the article but I did look at the other games they had on the list. The list itself is good but Wii Sports at #1? Come on.

Wii Sports is great in burts and sure it’s fun with others but that’s it. It’s a pack in game to show off the Wiimote, not a #1 game of 2006.

Which title would you personally have liked to see as #1?

I thought it was great news for Nintendo in general but the #1 title for all of 2006….I’m on the fence. I absolutely lvoe the title but I do understand where you are coming from.

No doubt it is a good game but like I said, for me it’s one of those games that I pick up when I’m bored, put it down and come back to it again a few days later.

When I think Game of the Year, Best of 2006 or what ever the title may be I look for games with the whole package so to speak. Something with the gameplay, audio, graphics and staying power. (Doesn’t have to be online multiplayer)

Persoanlly, I have played Gears of War since day one and still play it today. Good single player experience and a great online game.

Twilight Princess is another one of those games. Long and great all around game.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is another game that I still play today. Very deep single player experience with a good story and tons of side missions. Heck, if you’re into it you can come up with a story for your character with his/her own personality and play the game like that. It makes the game even longer and probably why I’ve come back to it again and again with different creations of characters.

Again, I’m not bashing Wii Sports as I think it is a good game. I just don’t agree with Times when they picked it for Best of 2006.

I don’t understand how Wii Sports deserves to rated #1 -
I would say Zelda Twilight Princess is more derserving.

It’s always hard picking a “game of the year” award. I don’t know if I would personally be able to pick a clear winner
