Nintendo may have just become a major player in the RPG realm. Bandai Namco Holdings issued a press release today announcing that it will transfer 80% of its 96% stake in Monolith Soft to Nintendo, effective May 1!!

A huge move for Nintendo and a breath of relief for RPG fans everywhere. Monolith is known for its work on the Xenosaga series as well as Baten Kaitos for the Nintendo Gamecube.

Awesome news and we will keep you posted for any new findings.

This is quite amazing for me. I’m a huge fan of the Baten Kaitos series and I even wrote up that editorial posted here a while back talking about Baten Kaitos DS. This could actually become a reality now. This is great news, and Nintendo has added a great company to their list with this trade.

If anyone is curious, Disaster: Day of Crisis is published by Nintendo but developed by Monolith Soft. Maybe that should have been a hint. :D
