English newspaper The Guardian is asking a provocative question via their weblog: How long can Microsoft keep charging for Live? Now that Games for Windows Live is free, is it only a matter of time until Microsoft un-costs the excellent online component it has built for the 360?
We could see it going either way, honestly, and it probably depends on the long-term health and success of the PS3’s online offerings.
Guardian: How long can Microsoft keep charging for Xbox Live?

No No No.. Games for Windows LIVE is free because it was stupid. PC gamers never had to pay to play their games (except for subscription based games like WoW) and Microsoft all of the sudden making you pay for it was a dumb move on their part. Especially since their weren’t too many games that utilized it. Honestly, xbl is only 50 bucks a year. Its nothing to complain about. Yes PSN is free, but the quality of the services differ greatly. With things like Netflix coming down the line people are starting to change their minds anyway. I’ve seen at least 3 or 4 editorials talking about how with the new “Xbox Experience” XBL is finally worth the price.
