Reviews for Sega’s highly anticipated and much talked about Wii FPS are piling up and we here at gameonnintendo are no exception. How did Sega’s title fair? Did they truly make the best Wii FPS shooter to date? Will GameonTV ever make a comeback?
All of these answers and more, after the break.
For all of those who are keeping score, The Conduit is Sega’s premier FPS for Wii and is now available for your gaming needs. The campaign storyline focuses on an alien invasion of Washington, D.C. in the very near future with an alien race known as the Drudge utilizing portal-like Conduits to deploy their forces throughout the city.
A shadow government organization known only as ”the Trust” sends newly inducted agent Michael Ford (that would be you) into the area to disrupt a terrorist threat but quickly becomes entangled in the fight to stop the invasion and save the capital from imminant destruction (take a deep breath).
Cliché- yes, but decently fun cliché non-the-less. The game follows all the rules that you have come to expect in a FPS and doesn’t really reinvent anything. The Conduit has its bright spots giving gamers a fantastic looking title on Wii and a robust online system that all others should follow. The controls of this title are superb and really give gamers the sense of a virtual keyboard and mouse.
The online component of The Conduit really helps this title establish why this game is being tooted as the Wii’s best FPS to date. Multiplayer in The Conduit features 13 competitive multiplayer modes for online play, with seven different maps and 18 weapons to choose from and just works. Mark my words, this is how online titles should be for Nintendo Wii.
Graphically speaking the title features some of the best visuals we have seen on this system, but in my humble opinion, nowhere near say 360 or PS3 (sorry guys, it’s the truth). The backgrounds of the title are bland at times and the enemy AI needs a healthy dose of Artificial intelligence. From my time with the title, I experienced a few hicups in frame rate but overall not too shabby.
If you’re going it solo, the game features a decent 6 hour storyline with TONS of unlockables that should keep any gamer entertained.
This one of Wii’s best online and shooter experiences to date and if the Wii is the only system you have, you will LOVE this game. The team over at High Voltage should be applauded for their tremendous efforts and should be commended with our gaming dollars. It’s not the end all, be all in terms of FPS, but it’s a definitely worth your time.
