Quick Update: Anyone that picks up a copy of Phantom Hourglass and registers it over at Nintendo’s website will get a stylus shaped like an old quill pen. Pretty nifty if you ask me.

Get ready gamers, Advance Wars 2 is headed our way! Here are some big changes:
- Game has an entirely new crew.
- “realistic” graphical approach taken, no more cartoon-like visuals
- new combat animations
- Bike infantry unit added
I love the decision to go with a more realistic graphical approach as I feel that it will give the game a more serious tone and actually help sales (not that it needed any) here in the States. What do you guys think?
Ign.com has given us a good preview of this up and coming DS RPG. I (kmaxx) myslef am looking forward to this game. Here is the whole article on IGN. Let us know what you guys think about this title. Do you think it is a title to get? here is an excerpt:
What we will tell you, however, is that while Heroes of Mana still has that “niche” feel to it - something many gamers prefer for long-lasting franchises - it’s easily the best RTS experience we’ve had the pleasure of playing on a handheld, as it seamlessly blends touch control with dual-screen unit management and a solid mix of units and strategy. Wait… does DS actually have an RTS worth playing? It took nearly three years, but we can finally give a resounding “yes.”
This week, Japan’s Weekly Famitsu reviewed The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and the game garnered a near perfect score: 39 out of 40. Three of the reviewers slapped it with a 10, while the fourth settled on 9.
“It is so easy to pick up! There have been many games using the stylus, but this one didn’t feel frustrating for the most part,” said one. However, another was concerned about “parts where you may mistakenly perform a different move.”
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass arrives this weekend for the lucky stiffs in Japan. More as it develops!

Paris, FRANCE ? May 21, 2007 ? Today Ubisoft, one of the world?s largest video game publishers, announced that it is expanding its casual video game business. Ubisoft has made significant investments and formed an internal development structure dedicated to the creation of games for everyone. Among the first projects of the new team are the introduction of the new ?My Coach? product line and the significant expansion of the already successful Petz? franchise.
?Ubisoft has a proven track record of publishing and creating video games for non-traditional gaming audiences, with multimillion-selling brands like Petz and Rayman,? said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. ?The timing is right for us to leverage our creativity and to open up the video games market to new consumers who will be attracted by content that can help them learn, grow and feel better in an entertaining way.?
The ?My Coach? series of games will allow players to improve themselves and learn in an interactive and stimulating way. The first two games in the line are ?My Word Coach? and ?My Life Coach.? ?My Word Coach,? is being developed in collaboration with linguists and will help players improve their verbal communication and vocabulary in a fun way. ?My Word Coach? can be played alone or with friends on Wii? and Nintendo DS? and will be released in Fall 2007. ?My Life Coach? is being developed in collaboration with a behaviorist. ?My Life Coach? is a personal coach that gives anybody concerned about their well being the willpower they need to change their habits the way they want in a motivating and fun way. ?My Life Coach? will be available for the Nintendo DS in Holiday 2007.
Ubisoft will also continue to grow its extremely successful Petz? line of games and allow young players to learn how to take care of that special cat, dog or horse on their Wii for the first time. The Petz series sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in fiscal year 2006-07.
It seems as though the upcoming DS RPG, Final Fantasy IV will not only feature new graphics (simliar to FF III) but also a rewritten script. Here is what the good guys over at GoNintendo had to report:
Takashi Tokita, the main writer for FF4?s story, reveals that 75% of the original script had to be cut out. This is in reference to the original Japanese script, not with any translation cuts. So some of the new scenario and events they intend to put in FF4 DS are from the stuff they intended to put in but didn?t.
With this recent announcement, I have to ask; do you guys personally feel that the need to rewrite the script or would you prefer all original content?
Quick Update: Habla Espanol? Listings for DS titles My Spanish Coach and My French Coach popped up on the popular internet rental site GameFly. The games have an October release date on the list.
Interesting to say the least. I think it’s yet another reason for a “non-gamer” to purchase Nintendo’s juggernaut of a handheld. What do you guys think?
