Link’s Crossbow Training Details

Thanks to the guys at Zentendo for this information.

Nintendo of America announced new details today concerning the upcoming title Link’s Crossbow Training for the Wii. The game will consist of three different styles: target shooting, defender and ranger, and will boast 27 stages in total. Nintendo made it clear that some stages may contains elements of more than one of the above styles, and that the goal of each stage is to get the highest score within the timelimit. The game will feature multiplayer, but those fearing a realistic “Four Swords” can rest easy; the game only features turn play, so only one player goes at a time.

In each stage, players may encounter targets that are either stationary or in motion, and they must hit the bull’s-eye in order to receive the maximum point value as well as chaining good shots to earn combo multipliers. Players can aim anywhere on the screen, but it was not made clear if in this mode if players could turn the screen or if they have control of Link’s movement.

Defender style levels require the player to remain stationary, but they have full 360 degree aiming. The press release states in order to turn, players must aim off-screen. One has to wonder why it couldn’t work like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption’s controls at the very least, or if maybe aiming off-screen will initiate a rapid turn. Enemies will rush Link’s position, including Stalfos in the Gerudo Desert or reliving the Wagon mission from Twilight Princess by defending it from boar-riding Bokoblins across Hyrule Field.

The final type of gameplay is the ranger mode. This mode seems to boast full motion control of Link, where players can navigate him through levels as well as aim anywhere on screen. These missions also appear to be more traditional in nature, as Link will charge through various enemy lairs, the Lost Woods and other areas.

Link’s Crossbow Training will come packaged with the Wii Zapper for $19.99 when it is released on November 19th, 2007.
